　明年生肖老虎，上次虎年，半身往上揚爪的虎燈在雷射開光儀式中，眼露凶光，當年國內空難事故不斷。燈會後，主燈移放東海岸，發生離島班機事故，台十一濱海公路也大小車禍不斷等。交通部觀光局找來勘輿師在虎燈旁擺八卦陣後，事故才趨緩。

　有了上次虎燈的慘痛經驗，今年還有八八風災，明年的虎燈造型特別引起關切了。交通部長毛治國指示，虎燈造型不要太過凶猛。

　明年燈會主燈主題命名為「福臨寶島」，取「虎」、「福」諧音，也為去除惡運。設計理念為虎躍福臨，因老虎形象為威猛，為了讓老虎柔軟些，觀光局加入小老虎， {

　明年燈會有四座副燈，放置位置都看過風水，分別是主展場的龍戲虎祈福燈、麒麟獻瑞及嘉義市政府前的瑞鳳翔飛、中山路噴水圓環旁的鰲躍江海。

鰲躍江海副燈將於十二月二十四日配合嘉義管樂節開幕，提前點燈。

　明年燈會二月二十七日彩排，二月二十八日元宵節當天開燈，展期到三月七日周日為止，共八天。
